Make me wine...

Here are the wines I have tried. Some will be posted with commentary, some with just a simple good or bad.  Not only will I be considering taste, but I factor the cost of the wine into its overall rating.

Bois de Lamothe, Cotes de Duras?
The only reason I bought this wine is because it was French and I couldn't read anything on the bottle. I thought to myself, the French make good wine... how can I go wrong? I was wrong. The wine has little flavor and even upon second opinion, it tastes watered down even.  Two-buck Chuck has more body than this stuff. Sorry Southern France, but this did not do it for me. Of course I'm not dismissing all french wine (on account of this one is poor quality), but I won't be buying this bottle again. Four dollars wasted.

2.17.11
Black Swan Chardonnay
My best friend bought me this wine as a Valentine's gift.  It's very smooth and has some bright fruity flavors, but it's too acidic or crisp. I like it, and I'm not much of a white wine drinker...

2.16.11
Barefoot Moscato
WOOOOWWW!! At first taste, I was amazed! This wine is so sweet and crisp! It has a very lovely floral aroma and you can taste it as well. It's not dry like a chardonnay, and it's definitely not sour. I would absolutely buy this again!

1.18.11
Kedem Cream Red Concord
Ok, so this bottle was bought only out of curiosity for what Kosher wine would taste like. Let's just say I'm glad I'm not Jewish... it tasted like grape juice gone a little sour. Yuck! At least it was super cheap, only a few bucks.

1.17.11
Challis Lane Old Vine Zinfandel
Zin is one of my favorite red wines. This one wasn't as good as Zynthesis (below), but it did have it's good qualities.  The bottle won 88 points (aka: pretty decent wine) and at first taste was sweet and had hints of berries, particularly strawberries. It was light, but flavorful.  After aerating it for a little while, the taste was a lot more smooth and the aromas were more apparent. I would buy this bottle again if it was on sale. I think normally it is about $15-20, but I got it for around $6.

11.27.10
Zafrika Portage
I bought this wine at Trader Joe's for about $4-5.  I thought it would be fun to try because it's from South Africa, and the descriptions seemed good. Upon first taste, it wasn't as sweet as i would have hoped. But after a while it grew on me. I wouldn't buy it again, but I also don't regret purchasing it.

Hello!! This isn't Jessica, this is her housemate Amy! I'm spending a much needed night in with a bottle of Jacob's Creek Cabernet Sauvignon purchased at the local alcoholic supply store Keg & Bottle. Now I am no expert on wine, in fact I'm far from it. I really know nothing except for when I like a bottle and when I don't. I rarely if ever like white wine, and am still very selective about my red wines. I don't like that dry bad breath feeling (obviously using technical terms and jargon) that accompanies many red wines, but this Cabernet I love! It it slightly sweet, and has a fruity taste and smell to it. It is easy to get down and delicious and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. PLUS it was only 6 bucks and had a twisty top so it was easy to open! Love it and highly recommend it.

Thank you Jessica for letting me guest blog =) Love you!

Good ol' Two Buck Chuck from Trader Joes. I wasn't a fan of the Charles Shaw red wine, but I thought I would give the pink a chance. I know I like red Zinfandel, so I was sure I wouldn't mind the white.  At first taste, you can tell it's a white wine, but with a crisp sweet berry hint to it. It's not too acidic, like some wine's I have tried, but I wouldn't say it's full of flavor.  However, for $2, I'm not complaining!

Il Valore Sangiovese
I bought this wine at Trader Joe's for relatively cheap. For its price, it wasn't too bad! It was somewhat bitter for my liking with deep flavors. I had it with my steak last night and I thought the combination of the two was very yummy :)

Zynthesis Merlot:
This bottle has a funny story to it: About a year ago, my roommate brought home this bottle of wine from her cousin's wedding so we could drink it at home. Basically, we fell in love with it. We kept the bottle so we wouldn't forget the name of it and we could buy it again. After countless trips to the store, we had almost given up on Zynthesis. However, over the weekend, my parent's friend brought over the bottle we had been searching for all this time! I immediately asked where the wine could be found, then texted my roommate.  Luckily, it was purchased at BevMo during the 5 cent wine sale that they have going on right now. When you buy one bottle, you get the second for 5 cents!  So I went to BevMo the next day and bought two bottles for around $17.  For the fruity and sweet taste of this wine, it was well worth the price :)

La Crema Pinot Noir:
I bought this bottle while I was on the train back to Santa Barbara. Do I need to mention that it was a 5 hour train ride? (Hence the reason i spent $13 on this small bottle). The flavor had a tiny bite to it, but left a very faint fuity taste. It didn't taste cheap, but for 375mL, it was not worth the price. Maybe if I find this wine in the grocery store for a cheaper price, I would buy it again.  But next time I take the train... I'm bringing my own bottle!

Barefoot Merlot:
Good taste for a cheap price! It's about $5-6, and apparently it has won some awards! I give it two thumbs up for college students!
